For more than a
century humanity has been conditioned to the notion that propulsion is
provided by fossil fuels. This rule was never seriously challenged. Oil has
held the MONOPOLY.
Just as humanity
shifted from horse-carriages to automobiles, from vinyl records to CD's,
from film to digital, so we now have to move from fossil fuel to hydrogen.
Obviously, it
will be a gradual process. The oil industry will still make their profits
for a long time to come. They can even have extra income from hydrogen
produced in the refining process. In this way they will NOT cause their own
downfall; on the contrary, they will extend the life of oil reserves.
For too long we
have polluted the atmosphere with harmful gases which are now threatening
the balance in nature. If we do not make the change in our thinking we will
pay severely by suffering the devastating effects of storms, droughts,
floods, fires, and famines.
Earth is the only habitat we have. We are compelled to preserve it for
ourselves and our descendants. Christians of all churches should care about
the well-being of creation -- "This is our Father's world" (Ps. 24:1).
Global warming
made us realize the need for change; soaring fuel and food prices are making
us ready and willing for action NOW.
If leaders of G8
countries would only announce LARGE SCALE investment in hydrogen, the price
of oil will immediately drop. When the media realize these countries are
serious, putting their money where their mouths are, the price of oil will
drop to its natural level.
The COMPETITION
introduced by hydrogen will end oil's monopoly. We know how unhealthy
monopoly is for the economy. Many countries have laws against monopolizing
the market, yet we have never challenged the monopoly of fossil fuels for
propulsion. It's high time.
